Dear Prayash Bandhus, The entire world today is focused on one problem - beating COVID-19. Every nation, every organization, every individual has been impacted, and it is our reaction in these difficult times that defines who we really are. With our school closed and access to limited resources, the team at Dakshini Prayash was challenged to innovate its teaching methods.
All educational institutions are facing a similar crisis and many have pivoted to e-learning. This wasn't as easy for us since our students and teachers do not have access to computers or internet. With determination to continue learning, our team came up with a unique tele-education model.
Small groups of 3 to 4 students was formed from all classes. Teachers created a rigorous schedule for lessons of all subjects. At the given time, the teacher and students of a group would get on a phone call together for their 'lesson'. Teachers repeated the same activity for all groups of all classes.Students were required to prepare for the call by reading assigned material and noting questions for teachers. Special attention was given to students as per requirement through 1:1 calls.
Most of us were skeptical of the effectiveness of our model - running classes over phone calls for 300+ students was unheard of. But we did it! The syllabus for the term was covered for all classes successfully. Our motivated team of teachers - who had to repeat lessons several times over multiple calls that went on till as late as midnight on some days - turned the impossible to possible. Our students showed great enthusiasm and participated proactively on calls, making the work easier for the staff members. Parents of the students showed great support and were exhilarated by the school's initiative to continue education.Watch the video to see pictures from the homes of our teachers and students and hear what parents have to say. Implementing and seeing the results of tele-education has been a great learning for all of us at Dakshini Prayash and we hope that our story inspires other educators. As the saying goes - when life gives you lemons, make a lemonade!Until next time,With love -Team Dakshini Prayash
